Corporate Communications Advisor (2011-present)
Serve as internal and external communications coordinator for Total’s U.S. Refining and Chemicals branch. Develop strategies, multi-faceted campaigns, messaging and implement the vision. Interact regularly with community, government, media, industrial groups and customers as well as preparing executives, managers and other personnel in the delivery of the strategy to those audiences. Also responsible for crisis communications, serving as company spokesperson, community spending strategy, outreach, government affairs and event planning.
Senior Communications Specialist (2008–2011)
Supervisory role over a staff of four and budget/personnel management included coordination of internal and external messaging for the Port Arthur Refinery as well as its $2.8 billion expansion project. With no previous communications department, the job involved development from the ground level. In-house staff produced photography, promotions, video shooting and editing, page design, writing, advertising, marketing, promotions, high-level speech writing and event planning.
Responsible for consistent/effective executive messaging, the role required cooperation with all management levels and international executives. Served as spokesperson/community representative with industry groups, media and local to national government officials.

Public Information Specialist (2007-2008)
With both an external and internal communication emphasis, the job included a heavy writing, design and public speaking focus. In addition, the role included fostering solid media relationships, serving as the Adopt-a-Highway coordinator and recycling coordinator for a multi-county area.
Developed an anti-litter educational campaign with “Don’t Mess with Texas” mission by partnering with a university theater program to create a puppet show to best connect with elementary schools (reached 2,000 students in eight months).

In addition to serving as a daily reporter full-time, designed pages in the evening on a part-time basis as well as contributed heavily to online “extras,” such as videos, presentations and web-only content. While assigned to cover City Hall and city issues, worked regularly with key city and county leaders. Pitched unique angles and investigative pieces to editors on a daily basis.

Supervised a staff of four and managed a freelance staff of 50 people for the weekly features section and monthly special sections in San Jose, Costa Rica which includes oversight of the story budget, assignment, design, editing of articles and budget management. In addition to the daily job, also managed the newspaper’s redesign and the production of “Exploring Costa Rica” – a 382-page paperback guidebook.
